NSFC Collaborative Accomplishments

NSFC Fencing Program

Fencing of young white pine and white cedar (in particular) is required to prevent deer and snowshoe hare browsing. Thanks to the Weekes Family Foundation, fencing has been made available for North Shore landowners at a significantly discounted price in the springtime planting season since 2016. This project has provided over 80,000 fenced white pine seedlings over the past 6 years.

Minnesota State Conservation Partners Legacy Program

Since 2013, the NSFC has collaboratively sought and secured over $1Million in CPL grant money to plant and protect over 100,000 trees back to public lands on the North Shore. In total, the NSFC has actively collaborated to bring in nearly $3Million in various agency natural resource focused grants to restore the North Shore forest on public and private lands.

Minnesota Power Rajala Woods Initiative – NSFC Support

Since 2021, the NSFC has coordinated the distribution of Minnesota Power’s Rajala Woods Initiative’s 80,000 white pine seedlings to North Shore landowners.
