Woods Walk Advisor Contractors
The North Shore Forest Collaborative maintains a healthy and functioning ecosystem along Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior by restoring and maintaining native trees and forest communities.
We seek a variety of people, organizations and agencies with an interest in creating a resilient forest along Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior. Individuals and organizations are needed to conduct landowner site visits for a “walk in the woods” program for the North Shore Forest Collaborative.
Those who are accepted will:
- Meet new people.
- Share their knowledge of trees, tree planting and protection.
- Set your own schedule and number of visits.
- Learn more about the North Shore Forest through regular on-line and in person training.
For each site visit completed a payment of $160 plus mileage reimbursement to and from the closest of the Sugarloaf offices, or home office of the contractor will be made.
The ideal individual will have education or training in biology, fisheries, wildlife, forestry or other natural resource fields; and experience working with landowners. Experience as a naturalist, natural resource professional, forester, Master Naturalist, Woodland Advisor, Master Woodland Advisor, or Minnesota Woodland Steward is valued.
Required qualifications:
- Ability to tell others about the mission of the North Shore Forest Collaborative.
- Ability to formulate brief project plans for the selection of appropriate species, planting and protection of trees and control of invasive species.
- Ability to effectively talk with landowners, making recommendations for tree planting and protection, and invasive species control.
- Knowledge about the plants and ecology of the north shore forests.
- Knowledge about invasive species
- Knowledge of or willing to learn about agency incentive programs and community resources
On-line or face to face training will be provided.
Also Required:
- Must have your own transportation
- Must work as an independent contractor
- Must have a working smartphone or tablet device and be able to download and use a data collection app
